JAI Introduces New Dual CCD 1.3MP Multispectral Camera
We are pleased to officially rollout the first of the new 1.3 megapixel 2-CCD cameras previewed to you at the November sales meeting in Stuttgart. The new AD-130GE is a 2-CCD multi-spectral camera, identical in concept to the AD-080GE camera. The main differences are higher resolution and greater sensitivity – both the result of the Sony ICX447 CCDs used in the AD-130GE.
Design concept like the original AD-080GE and AD-080CL models, the AD-130GE features a dichroic prism that divides incoming light into visible and near-infrared channels along a common optical path. The visible light is directed to a color CCD offering either raw Bayer output for host based interpolation, or in-camera interpolated RGB output. The NIR wavelengths are directed to a monochrome CCD with excellent sensitivity in the 750nm to 1000nm range.
The AD-130GE features the Sony ICX447 CCDs. These offer 1.3 megapixels of resolution (1296 x 966 pixels), while maintaining the same 1/3” format as the AD-080 series. 31 fps – Despite the higher resolution, the camera’s 49 MHz clock speed enables it to operate at 31 frames per second in continuous mode with Bayer & NIR output, and can even deliver 24-bit RGB output at nearly 30 fps. Better sensitivity – The ICX447 sensors offer improved sensitivity for both visible and NIR light.
Color sensitivity is increased by approximately 20 percent vs. the AD-080 models, while NIR sensitivity is more than 2X the earlier cameras. This, coupled with a low-noise front end, reduces illumination requirements while producing a better signal-to-noise ratio. Dual GigE interfaces – Like the AD-080GE, the new AD-130GE features two GigE Vision interfaces which can be operated in synchronous or asynchronous mode, depending on the application.
Other key camera features include:
Variable partial scan with user-definable height and starting lineProgrammable exposure from 0.4L(11.49μs) to 982L(31.761ms)
Edge Pre-select, Pulse Width Control and Reset Continuous trigger modesSequence trigger mode for on-the –fly change of gain, exposure and ROI
Delayed read out mode for smooth transmission of multi camera applications
Built-in blemish compensationBuilt-in shading compensation
LUTs (Look Up Tables) for gamma correction
AGC (Automatic Gain Control) from 0dB to 21dB
Auto-iris lens video output for lens control
C-mount lens mount -- however, be sure to use lenses designed for multi-CCD cameras (3CCD lenses) and be sure that the lens does not have a built-in IR-cut filter which would create problems for the NIR imaging channel.
JAI’s GigE Vision SDK
As a JAI GigE Vision camera, the AD-130GE is supported by JAI’s SDK and Control Tool. This proven software package is a great sales tool, especially during the evaluation stage. Because it is freely downloadable and fully vendor independent, it is ideal for comparing various products to find the best application fit. It also offers numerous pre-written sample applications to speed and simplify the eval process, along with a large function library for full application development.
Of course, the AD-130GE is fully GigE Vision / GenICam compliant, so customers don’t have to use the JAI SDK. They can choose to use any third-party libraries and development tools as long as they are GigE Vision / GenICam compliant. Core applications for the AD-130GE are the same as for the original AD-080 models. To date, the majority of interest in these cameras has come from customers in the fruit and vegetable inspection realm, where color, ripeness, and other surface properties are checked via the visible channel, while bruising, subsurface decay, and foreign objects are identified in the NIR channel.
Other applications which have shown some interest in multi-spectral sorting or inspection include blister pack or other plastic film containers, inspection of medical seals, traffic management/enforcement, print inspection of banknotes, passports and tickets, electronic circuit board inspection, and surface inspection of textiles

Cameralink to 10 Gige Engine
iPORT™ CL-Ten IP engine delivers ultra-high-performance GigE Vision® connectivity for Camera Link® Medium cameras over standard 10 GigE networks
Pleora Technologies, a global leader in networked video connectivity solutions for high-speed imaging systems, today made industry history with the commercial launch of a high-performance transmitter that streams video at more than 8 Gb/s over standard 10 GigE networks, in real time with low, consistent latency.
"Our 10 GigE video transmitter is a world first that highlights Pleora's industry leadership in high-performance video-over-Ethernet solutions," said Rob Lee, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Pleora Technologies. "The launch of this first product in our 10 GigE family marks the beginning of a new era in high-performance networked video."
Reliable, Low-Power Architecture
Pleora’s 10 GigE transmitter — the iPORT CL-Ten Dual Medium IP Engine — is based on an innovative, low-power architecture that reflects years of development and refinement in Pleora's engineering labs. It meets growing market demand for reliable high-bandwidth video transport and is ideal for semiconductor, web, and flat-panel inspection systems, as well as new-generation medical and military imaging applications.
Multi-Rate Switched Video Networking
Pleora's iPORT CL-Ten integrates seamlessly with other vision system equipment – such as GigE cameras, PCs, displays, and controllers — in distributed, multi-rate, real-time video networks. "With the iPORT CL-Ten, you can add to existing 1 GigE networks with minimum disruption, or build an entirely new system with a mix of 1 and 10 GigE hardware – but all running on the same Ethernet switch, and using the same Pleora eBUS SDK," said John Philips, Senior Product Manager, Pleora Technologies.
Blazing Speed
The iPORT CL-Ten takes video data from two Camera Link Medium cameras and transports it in real time at more than 8 Gb/s to off-the-shelf PCs over industry-standard copper or fiber-based 10 GigE links. This lowers system costs by limiting the need for expensive and bulky Camera Link cables, extenders, and frame grabbers, while allowing PCs to be located safely away from inspection areas. Faster inspection times, through increased frame rates and maximum resolutions, mean further cost savings.
Pleora's iPORT CL-Ten complies fully with the open GigE Vision and GenICam™ standards, as well as with the Camera Link, PoCL, and CLProtocol standards, easing system design and integration. The iPORT CL-Ten is available as an enclosed unit.
The iPORT CL-Ten IP engine will be on live display this week at Vision China Shanghai 2012. Visitors are welcome to Pleora's booth in Hall W1, Booth 1345.
